Retired Civil Service -Fort Gordon AUGUSTA, Ga.- Entered into rest after a brief illness, Tuesday, January 27, 2004, Mr. George T. Barton, 83, of C & S Drive, Augusta. A native of Hart County, Ga., Mr. Barton lived in Augusta for the last 52 years. He was retired from Fort Gordon as a refrigeration/AC mechanic and was a member of Marks Baptist Church where he was active in the tract ministry. Mr. Barton was a navy veteran of WW II and a member of the VFW. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30, 2004 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, the Rev. Hal Hodgens and Rev. Albert Stroup officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Family members include his wife, Gehl Barton; a daughter & son-in-law, Linda & Tommy Bodnar of Martinez; a son & daughter-in-law, Russell J. & June Barton of Bethel, Connecticut; five grandchildren, Rachel Barton o f Connecticut, Sandra Williams of Warner Robbins, Ga., Ashley Storey and Amber Bodnar, both of Martinez, and Cora Odell of Salem, Oregon; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Barton was preceded in death by a son, George T. Barton, Jr. Pallbearers will be Bill Lewright, John McCann, Bill Mills, Bobby Barton, J.P. Barton and Tommy Frost.
