He had retired from Springs Foundry and Machine Shop, was a U.S. National Guard Veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa and Europe and was a member of Douglas Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday School and was Elder Emeritus. Mr. Barton was a member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 and Hejaz Shrine Temple.
