Elisha Barton was a native of Fulton County, Pa. In 1872 he settled in Coaldale, Bedford Co., Pa. In 1877-78 he lived in Hopewell Township. In about 1880 he moved to his farm in Broad Top Township.

Fulton County was created on April 19, 1850, from the part of Bedford County where Elisha lived and named for inventor Robert Fulton.
