Frances D. Bailey (nee Barton), of Mountain Home, was born June 10, 1923 in Jonesboro to W.F. Barton and Demetra P. Barton. She passed away on November 27, 2012 in Mountain Home where she had resided since 1976.
During her youth in Jonesboro, Frances enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and singing at First Baptist Church. After graduating from Arkansas State Training High School, she attended college at Arkansas State College where she majored in education and music.
In May, 1942, she married Bernard B. Bailey of Black Oak, Arkansas. While Bernard was away serving his country, she worked in San Diego as a bookkeeper.
Frances was a woman that wore "many hats" during her lifetime. Some of these included elementary classroom teacher, regional office manager & liaison to Congressman Bill Alexander, Director of the Nancy Taylor Finishing & Modeling School, judge for National Beauty Contests, President of Altrusa, Craighead County Library Board, Jonesboro Business College teacher, Girl Scout Leader, wife, and mother. She served the Mountain Home community as a board member of Advocates for the Elderly, was active in the Welcome Club and First Presbyterian Church. She was an avid watercolorist and a lifetime member of the Area Art Club. Her interest in art took her to Giverny, France to paint in Monet's Garden. Fran and her husband, Bernard, loved to travel, play duplicate bridge, fish the White River, and dance.
She was preceded in death by her brother P.C. (Pete) Barton. Survivors include her husband, Bernard Bailey of Mountain Home; two children, Dorothy (Dot) Bailey of Gamaliel, Arkansas and son, Robert (Bob) Bailey of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; granddaughter, Carrie Haapala of White House, Tennessee; two great grandchildren; and sisters, Martha Barton White of Jonesboro and Emma Gene Barton Buzick of Bella Vista.
Graveside services will be held in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Mountain Home at a date to be announced.
