Dorothy Celestial Barton Hillhouse peacefully passed away September 27, 2012 at the age of 99, in Salt Lake City surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born December 27, 1912 in Mt. Pleasant, UT to Willard W. and Ethelinda Christensen Barton as the 2nd of 10 children; George Bert (Phyllis), Lois (Karl) Flygare, Williard Earl, Lucille (Lawrence) Black, George (Fawn), Afton (Eldon) Lees, Francis Myrle (Joseph) Mellen, David (Dawna), and Phyllis Joann (Roy) Zerull. Dorothy grew up in Axtell, and later moved to Salt Lake City where she was in the first graduating class of South High School. She loved dancing at the Coconut Grove Ballroom, where she met her sweetheart Lt. Colonel Ernest G. Hillhouse USAF, who referred to her as his "little dream girl". They married May 15, 1936 in Salt Lake City, and were later sealed together for eternity in the Logan LDS temple. They were happily married for 48 years. While her husband served in World War II, she served at the Remington arms plant in Salt Lake City. They were blessed with three children; Marlene (Steve) Cundick, Richard (Shirley), and Karen (Dan) Watanabe. As part of the military, their family lived all over the country, as well as 2 years in Japan, before settling down in the Holladay area of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dorothy loved being a mother, a calling she excelled in. Additionally, she enjoyed square dancing, travelling, crocheting, embroidering, tending her beautiful flowers and spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Dorothy has lived a long and fulfilling life; her charity and selflessness has touched the lives of countless people. She loved to serve those around her, as well as serving in the LDS church as a Sunday School teacher, and temple worker.
Dorothy is reunited in death with her parents; daughter, Marlene; grandson, Jason Hillhouse; brothers, George and Earl; sisters, Lois, Lucille and Afton and, most importantly, her eternal companion, Ernie.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Richard; daughter, Karen; brothers, Bert and David; sisters, Myrle and Joanne; her eight grandkids and 11 great-grandkids.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 2nd 12:00 p.m. at the Winder Stake Center, 4366 South 1500 East Salt Lake City, Utah.
