Amelia was the daughter of Job Bartley. She married Edmond Braby in 1879 in Canada. They were the parents of Lawrence, Ada, Eva, Maude, Eliza, William, George, and Lloyd.


May 13, 1932 - Humboldt Republican - Mrs. Amelia Frances Braby, seventy-one years of age, of Rutland, passed away Sunday evening after an illness of three months duration, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Maude McDonald. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the McDonald residence, with the Rev. L.G. Focht, Methodist pastor at Rutland, preaching the services. W.F. Hopley was in charge.

Mrs. Braby was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Job Bartley, and was born in Beechville, Ontario, Canada, November 13, 1860. In the year of 1879 she was married to Edmund Braby, who died January 25, 1929. In 1891 they came to the United States to live, locating in Rutland township where they spent the rest of their lives.

Eight children were born to this union, all of whom are still living. They are: Mrs. Maude McDonald, Mrs. Eliza DeGroote, and Will Braby, all of Rutland; George Braby, Dakota City; Lloyd Braby, Fairmont, Minn.; Lawrence Braby, Mason City; Mrs. Ada Nielson, Humboldt; Mrs. Eva Hawk, Des Moines. One sister Mrs. George DeGroote of Rutland, and fourteen grandchildren. She loved Joy and Vera Vestervy as her own grandchildren and they are added to the list. There are eight great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Braby was not much concerned with public life, but was greatly interested in her family and her neighbors. She was friendly to the church although not a member of it.
