David W. Bartlett Dead
New Haven, Conn., June 26—David W. Bartlett, who was assistant editor of the New Era when that magazine published at Washington the first installments of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” died at his home in West Haven last night, aged eighty-four years. From 1872 to 1887 he was secretary of the Chinese legation at Washington. He was a newspaper correspondent of note, writing for the Springfield (Mass.) Republican and the New York Evening Post. He is survived by one daughter and two sons.
