PENDLETON -- The funeral for Elma Kiemele Bartlett will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 241 S.E. Second in Pendleton. A service will also be held at at 10 a.m. Monday at Van Orsdel Methodist Church in Havre, Mont. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Havre.
Mrs. Bartlett, 89, of Pendleton, died Monday, March 1, 2004, at Willowbrook Terrace in Pendleton.
She was born March 10, 1914, at Box Elder, Mont., to Fred and Margaret Kiemele. She attended schools in the Havre area and married Howard A. Bartlett on Dec. 31, 1934. They moved to Fairfield, Mont., in 1941 and operated an irrigated farm there until their retirement in 1973.
After leaving the farm they lived in Fairfield for several years, then returned to the Havre area where they lived until Mr. Bartlett's death in 1990. Mrs. Bartlett moved to Pendleton in 1996.
She enjoyed working side by side with her husband on the Montana farm and raising their daughter, Alice. She often said there was no better life than working and living on a Montana farm. She enjoyed her garden and cooking for visitors. She was an active member of her church community and found great satisfaction in socializing with family, neighbors and friends. She loved a spirited game of cribbage.
Survivors include her daughter, Alice Nelson, and son-in-law, David, of Pendleton; grandchildren, Shirley Lusty, Ronda Gibor, Eric Nelson and Cameron Nelson; three great -grandchildren; her brother, Alfred Kiemele of Havre ; and sister, Bertha Bitz of Great Falls, Mont.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, by her parents and by her brother, William Kiemele.
