Obituary – Published 1 November 1888

We are called upon to chronicle the death of another one of our former citizens, Mrs. Lydia A. Barstow, whose demise took place in Lyons, Rice county, Kansas, on Thursday, October 25, 1888. The funeral took place on Saturday at eleven o'clock form the M. E. church, Rev. Wilson preaching the sermon from Heb. 13-14. We have this brief sketch of the deceased:

Lydia A. Vanschoyck was born in Franklin county, Ohio in the year 1840. She was united in marriage at the age of 17 years to Isaac Fuller. After the death of Mr. Fuller she was married to Levi S. Barstow in 1872. They then moved from their home in Illinois to Rice county, Kansas, settling near Little River. From this place, they moved to Lyons. Mrs. Barstow had been a member of the M. E. church for 18 years, she was a consistent member, a good woman. Her death falls heavily upon a large circle of friends and acquaintances to miss her cheerfulness and kindly attention. None miss her more than the four children, one from her first husband and three by her last, who remain to mourn her loss. The community has lost a citizen, the church a member, the home a mother and wife. While we miss her, may we not hope that she goes to join the large circle of friends that awaited her on that "Evergreen Shore."
