Former Sergeant John N. Barry, 82 years old, a retired policeman, died Wednesday night at his home, 497 E street southwest, from paralysis. He was a native of Howard County, Maryland, and a miller by trade. He entered the police service in 1867, serving 45 years, most of the time in southwest Washington. July 1, 1915, he was honorably retired and placed on the police pension roll at $50 a month.
He resided opposite the Fourth police precinct, where he was a frequent visitor. He is survived by a son, Dr. Edmund Barry, a former police surgeon, and a daughter, Mrs Cole, wife of Detective H.A. Cole, of the First precinct. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from his residence and the interment was in Rock Creek cemetery.
