MONROE — The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Albany for Irene Marguerite Baker of Monroe, who died March 16 of age-related causes. She was 89.
She was born July 12, 1920, in Shanghai, China, to Henry and Leonora Olsen Barrows. She married Prince Baker on Sept. 5, 1948, in College Place, Wash.
She began the nursing program at Washington Sanitarium and Hospital in 1940. She completed her studies in pediatrics at Children's Hospital and in surgery at John Hopkins. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing education from Walla Walla College in 1949.
She worked at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles as an operating room registered nurse from 1943 to 1947. From 1960 to 1972, she worked as a surgical nurse at Sacred Heart General Hospital, and, from 1978 until her retirement in 1992, she was a surgical nurse at the Corvallis Good Samaritan Hospital.
Survivors include her husband; a son, David of Monroe; two daughters, Virginia Baker of Sacramento, and Marguerite Burrill of Marysville, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City. Arrangements by McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis. Remembrances to 3ABN Television Network.
