Marshfield-Donald Joseph Barron, 92, of Marshfield, MA passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester. Born in Springfield and a 89 year old resident of Springfield, he was the son of the late Fred and Cecilia (Tetreault) Baron. Donald was a retired electrical estimator for the M.L. Schmitt Co. He also worked in the same capacity for the Richard A. Turner and Brunton Electric. Donald was a communicant of St. Jude Church (formerly St. Aloysius Church) of Indian Orchard. He was a member of the parish Holy Name Society, a former chairman of the church's Renovation Fund, as well as a former member of the Building and Cemetery committees. Donald was a member of the Local #7 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union; past district governor for the Western Massachusetts Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Assoc.; a past president and zone chairman for the Indian Orchard Lions Club and a former corporator for the former Ludlow Savings Bank. Donald was also a gifted athlete playing semi-professional football for the Better Oles football team during the Depression years. He coached midget baseball teams sponsored by the Lions Club for several years. Donald was a founding member of the Indian Orchard Athletic Reunion Assoc. and was it's secretary and treasurer for many years. Donald was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor L. (Godaire) Barron in 1996, and by his son, Rev. Donald L. Barron in 1998. He is survived by his daughter, Ellen B. Lagunowich and her husband John of Marshfield; (2) grandchildren; (6) great grandchildren and eleven nieces and nephews. Donald's funeral will be held on Thursday morning, Jan. 10, 2008, from the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St. Indian Orchard at 9:45 a.m., followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Jude Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Indian Orchard. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Donald's memory to the American Diabetes Assoc. or to the American Heart Assoc.
Donald was the second from the youngest child born to Fred Baron & Celia Tetreault.
Donald said he picked out his own spot for this 4 grave lot.
