William D Barron enlisted July 15, 1861 into Company C "Hartwell Infantry" 16th Georgia Infantry. He was 40 or 41 years old at the time of his enlistment. On August 5, 1862, he appeared in person before the Justice of the Peace in Richmond, Va and filed a claim to collect the back pay for his son Willis Newton Barron who was accidentally killed on April 8, 1862 at the Warwick River near Yorktown, VA. He collected a total of $60.93 which included $35.93 pay for 3 months + 8 days since his last pay and $25.00 unused clothing allowance. William D Barron was wounded in the thigh during the Battle of Fredericksburg either on December 11 or 13, 1862 and died in 1863 (exact date not recorded.)
