On Sept. 22, 1940, he married Lola Abbott in Hamburg. They made their home in Nebraska City until moving to Fremont in 1967. He worked on WPA projects, for a hatchery in Nebraska City, and then for the Hubbard Milling Co. there. He came to Fremont with the Hubbard Milling Co. and retired from that company in 1980. During his retirement, Delbert worked on a farm for Carson Day. He also had a feeder pig operation for many years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fremont. He was a member of Western Star Masonic Lodge No. 2, A.F. & A.M. and the Elks Lodge, both of Nebraska City. He had been a member of the Eagles in Nebraska City and Fremont and was a member of the United Commercial Travelers of America.
He was active in the Fremont Friendship Center and was an avid bowler and card player.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola, in October of 1998, and by six brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by daughters Joyce and husband Jim Petersen of Fremont and Judy and husband Gene Nelson of Beverly Hills, Fla.; son W. Dean and wife Linda Barrett of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers Donald of Salinas, Calif., and Ronald and wife Regina of Nebraska City; sisters Virginia Huffman of Arlington, Texas, and Katherine Olney of Nebraska City; sisters-in-law Wanda Barrett of Nebraska City and Dorothy Barrett of Syracuse.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at the First Christian Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Greg Lugn officiating. Visitation will be on Friday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, from 2-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
