Iva Arminta Barrett Benedict was the daughter of Sarah Martin and George Barrett, one of thirteen children. She was born on a farm near Hamburg, Iowa. When Iva was a young girl the family moved to Shenandoah where she lived the remainder of her life. She attended the Shenandoah public schools and graduated with the class of 1926. She worked at the J.C. Penney store in Shenandoah for thirty years, when she was forced to retire due to her health.
She married Carl F Benedict on Oct 10, 1934. This marriage was unique in that three Barrett sisters married three Benedict brothers in the same year.
Carl and Iva had two children: Deanna and Larry. She was a lifelong member of the Shenandoah congregation of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Iva died at the hospital in Shenandoah following several months of declining health. She died at the age of 64 years 8 months.
