Mr. Jack R. Barrett, 67, of 114 Devonwood Drive, Calhoun, died Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 24, 1986).
Mr. Barrett was born in Gordon County, Oct. 24, 1919, a son of the late John R. and Eloise Muse Barrett. He was a lifelong resident of Gordon County and was a retired locomotive engineer. Mr. Barrett began his employment with the N.C. & Saint Lines (which later became L&N Railway) and was associated with the lines for 42 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, was a member of the Calhoun First Presbyterian Church, the Oothcaloga Lodge No. 254 F&AM of Calhoun, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.
Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by a brother, Renis Barrett, who died during World War II, and for whom the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Calhoun is named.
Survivors include, his widow, Mrs. Bennie Greeson Barrett; daughter and son-in-law, Eloise and John Ryan of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister, Mrs. Helen B. Jones of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Lisa and Lacey Ryan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Friday (Dec. 26, 1986) at 2:30 p.m. at the graveside in Fain Cemetery with Rev. Carleton Pridgen conducting the service.
Pallbearers included, Dick King, James Mealor, Mitchell Greeson, R. S. Parmley, R. E. Carson and David Burgess.
