Gertrude Thompson Barrett, 77, of 55 White Oak Drive, Smithfield NC, formerly of 1717 Kenneth Avenue, Arnold, died Sunday, August 12, 1979 at 2 p.m. at her home, following a lingering illness. An Arnold-New Kensington area resident for 35 years, she was born in Verona, Feb. 3, 1902, to Lloyd Findley and Gertrude Bell (Wiggins) Thompson.
A housewife, Mrs. Barrett was a member of Arnold United Methodist Church, and a life member of United Methodist Women. She is survived by a son, Howard Donald Holsing of Arnold, two daughters, Mrs. Alex (Jane Ann) DeLeon, with whom she made her home in Smithfield for the past two years, and Mrs. Louis (Carol Jean) McClowry of Natrona Heights; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and a brother, L.E. Thompson of Lower Burrell. Her husband, Charles Edgar Barrett, died Dec. 11, 1971 Private services were held with the Rev. Wm. Parker, associate pastor of Arnold United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Freeport Cemetery.
