John B. Barrett
Born in Oxford Maine April 30th 1829
Came to Nevada in the 1850s and was A Lawyer By trade, Soon became the local Justice of the Peace from 1862-75 When he stepped aside because of Ill Health.
He Died on Dec. 20th 1879 at Age 50 of Cancer and was buried in the Gold Hill Cemetery on Dec. 22 during a Heavy Snow storm, Even though there was a very Heavy Turn out of his Friends and Fellow Masions to pay their Last Respects to this Law Maker of the West.

The Attached photo is of a Tin Type in the State Archives and I wish to thank them for letting me copy it for Find a Grave. It has No Photographer info. on the back But has an old Penciled ID that reads "John Barrett J.P. Gold Hill 1877" So I take it the photo was taken in 1877.
The photo of his knocked over tomb stone was taken in Sept 2001. It is hoped by this writer that John's ghost haunts the dreams of the Dastards whe get a sick pleasure out of knocking over grave stones.
The other two photos were taken in 1998 to show you what the Gold Hill Nevada City Cemetery looks like today.
