Services for Mr. James Conrad Barrett Sr. will be held 10:00 am Saturday, January 15, 2010 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union with burial in the Union City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday January 14, 2011 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with Milling Funeral Home

UNION, MS - Dr. James C. Barrett of Union, MS, formerly of Springfield IL, and Bay St. Louis, MS, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 8:20 A.M. at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.
He was born July 30, 1934 in Springfield, IL, the son of William and Margaret Barrett of Springfield, IL.

Dr. Barrett married Caroline W. Finley on August 7, 1953 in Cleveland Ms. They are the parents of six children.

Surviving are his wife Carol, six children; James Jr. of Bay St. Louis, MS, Mary T (Terry) Shaw of Union, MS, David T. (Susan) Cheektowaga, NY, Julia Campbell (Nolan) Tacoma, WA, John (Mick) Bay St. Louis, MS, and Christine Girard, IL; Eight grandchildren; Seth Barrett (Carlinville, IL), Mesha, Tamar, Zech Campbell (Tacoma, WA), Kathleen (Katie), Jerry Jr., William Wheaton (Girard, IL), Tammy Barrett (Joplin, MO) and two great-grandchildren, Malon and Trinity.

Siblings-Patrick (Marilyn) Taylorville, IL, Donald (Patricia) Arlington Heights, IL, Dennis (Mary Jo) Brunswick, ME and Margaret (Peg) Tregoning (George) Springfield, IL; Sister-in-law; Maxine Lott, Union, MS, Brother-in-law; Henry Finley (Barbara), Union, MS, and Russell Finley (Sylvia), Oxford, MS, and a bountiful rich family of 16 nieces and 17 nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Jack, Larry, Thomas (Butch) Barrett and brother-in-law; Isaac A. Finley.

Dr. Barrett served with the United States Navy as an Aviation Electronic Specialist and worked with the Illinois State Board of Education; Department of Children and Family Services; Consultant Administrator in Special Education at the University of Mississippi Gulf Coast.

He was a member and PFN of Bishop Griffin Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Springfield, IL, and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council in Virden, IL.

A devoted husband and family man, Dr. Barrett enriched his life and those around him with love and friendship.

He thoroughly enjoyed sharing what life brought to him with humor and compassion. His passion to learn, teach and experience any and all things left an indelible mark on those who crossed and shared paths with him.

The family requests instead of flowers that donations be made to your local food banks.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 14, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with Milling Funeral Home of Union, Mississippi in charge of arrangements.
