From the Skidmore News, March 1, 1917, page 1:
Married by Rev. Reubin Barrett at his residence in Skidmore, Miss Gladys Carr to Archie P. Barrett, last Saturday morning. The newly weds sort o' surprised their friends on the time of their wedding. It seems that Miss Carr, who lived in town, went on a visit down in Holt county and Saturday morning Bro. Barrett took Archie in his auto, went and got Miss Carr, brought her to town and they were married at 10 o'clock leaving on the train at 10:30 for Lucas, Iowa, where they will visit for several days with a sister of Mrs. Barrett. Upon their return they will move to the Mitchell farm two miles west and a half mile north of town.
Archie is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wes Barrett, a progressive young farmer and has a host of friends in this community. Miss Carr is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Carr of near Hamilton, Mo., but for several years has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Miller of Skidmore. She is a young lady of many graces of mind and person who is capable of filling the home she will adorn with happiness. The News wishes them all the good things possible in this life."
