PRINCEVILLE, IL - John H. Barrett, 54, of rural Princeville died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at his residence after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

John was born Aug. 22, 1957, in Peoria, the son of William H. and Maedean Stodgel Barrett. He married Debbie L. Murphy on May 14, 1983, in Princeville.

She survives, along with three daughters, Tasha (Chaz) Simpson and Lindsy Barrett, both of Elmwood, and Alyssa (Travis) Wheat of Peoria; one granddaughter, Ava; his father, Bill (Sally) Barrett of Princeville; one brother, David (Cherakee) Barrett of Canton, Ill.; two sisters, Debbie (Charlie) Bruce of Mount Vernon, Ill., and Kat Barrett of Princeville; one stepbrother, Ian Martin of Princeville; and three stepsisters, Teresa (Doug) Poshard of Peoria, Amanda (Donnie) Nevitt of Henry, Ill., and Christina (Gyorgy) Laczko of Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

He was a cement finisher for 32 years, working for numerous concrete companies in the Peoria area, most recently for Williams Brothers. He was a member of Plasterers and Cement Masons Local No. 18 in Peoria.

John enjoyed camping, horseback riding and working around his home in the country. He loved his family and friends, and especially his granddaughter, Ava. He had a great sense of humor and took pleasure in making people laugh. He was an amazing witness for Christ. During his illness, he was especially concerned with the salvation of others around him.

He was a member of the Laura United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery.
