Lucine "Mama Lu" Barras Adams, 92, died of congestive heart failure at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2007. She was born in Labadieville on Oct. 30, 1915, to the late Noe and Avelie Barras and lived most of her life in New Orleans and Metairie. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she evacuated from Metairie Manor to Baton Rouge and then resided at Catholic-Presbyterian Apartments and later at Southside Gardens.

Lu was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis P. Adams Sr.; and her son, Warren J. Collins, who both died in 1989. All of her brothers, Junies, Herman and Norman Barras, preceded her in death as did a sister, Rose Barras Hebert.

Survived by her son, Ellis P. "Pete" Adams Jr. and his wife, Dee Jones Adams, of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Timothy Joseph Adams, Kristy Adams Zagami, Deborah Collins Theriot and Kimberly Collins Sayers; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her remaining sister, Gloria Barras Jansson; her daughter-in-law, Sue Collins; and other loving family and friends.
