Dawn, as she is known by her loved ones, enjoyed bird watching, reading and studying the Holy Bible. She loved visiting with friends and loved ones. She especially treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is fondly remembered by her family as having soft hands and a warm, caring heart.
A long-time member of the River of God Church (formerly named West Shore First Assembly of God), Dawn enjoyed worshipping and fellowshipping with her church family when she was able and singing old church hymns.
She was a retired employee of the former Bell Atlantic Telephone Co. and worked in the Philadelphia and Harrisburg Areas. Her career spanned nearly 35 years and included serving as a long distance switch board operator.
Born on February 9, 1928, in Bloomsburg, Dawn was the daughter of the late Raymond and Greta Wertman. She grew up in Espy, Pennsylvania but lived in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania and Akron, Ohio. She was a 1946 graduate of Akron High School.
Dawn is survived by her five children, Kathleen Troup of Etters, Jeffrey B. Barr of Dillsburg, Kimberly A. Smith of Harrisburg, Ellen M. Barr of Mechanicsburg and Christopher A. Barr of Camp Hill, a sister, Barbara Yoho of Smithville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Aaron Dettling and Jennie DeMuro, both of Harrisburg, Casey Telencio of New Cumberland, Seamus Smith of Harrisburg, Kristi Barr and Katie Barr both of Camp Hill; two great grandchildren, Ryan Telencio and Alex Telencio both of New Cumberland.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday in her church with Pastor Tim Halbfoerster officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Twp. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
