Dearest brother, thou hast left us,
Here thy loss we deeply feel;
But 'tis God that has bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
I believe that the James P. Barr buried at Center City, Texas was the son of Allen E. Barr b. August 28, 1811 and Jane Palace Campbell b. May 3, 1820.
According to family members he never fully recovered from injuries received during the Civil War and died of complications of those injuries. The family lived in Mississippi during the Civil War.
Civil War military records accessed through ancestry.com list a Corporal James P. Barr, Company D, 2nd Batt'n of the 48th Mississippi Infantry.
His brother, Richmond, was also a Corporal in the same unit and died in the battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse.
