Allan Neil Baron, 83, passed away on Thursday, surrounded by his loving family, at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany.

Born in Benedict, N.D., to Harold Baron and Winnie Naomi Malone Baron Elsea, he spent his early youth in Ontario, Calif., then moved back to North Dakota, graduating from Fargo High School and attending college before joining the U.S. Air Force.

Allan was stationed at Deep Creek Air Force Base in Spokane, Wash., and was honorably discharged in April 1955.

He worked as an agent for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company in Spokane; Moscow, Idaho; and Pendleton before moving to Corvallis in 1962 to work for the company. In 1976 he moved to North Albany.

Allan enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of the Corvallis Country Club. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing football, volleyball and basketball, and never tired of watching sports. His other interests included traveling, trying new cuisines, cooking and comparative shopping. He always knew the best prices and places for groceries.
