Dewey Clyde Barnwell, age 92, of Weatherford, went to see the Lord on Wednesday, September 5, 2012.
Clyde was born on May 23, 1920 in Aledo, Texas to Judson Ernest and Pauline Barnwell. Clyde served his country proudly during World War II, from 1942 through 1945 on the USS Achilles. He served as a 1st Class Electrician's mate. After the war Clyde started Barnwell Electric Company in Aledo.
Clyde was saved at the age of 14 years old in the Old Aledo Baptist Church. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Mason's.
Clyde is survived by his wife of 66 years, Faye Barnwell; son, Dewey Barnwell and wife, Jenny of Weatherford; daughter, Cindy Shumaker and husband, Robbie of Benbrook, Texas; grandson, Gentry Barnwell and wife, Jennifer of Cedar Park, Texas; 2 great grandchildren, Shawn and Hannah Barnwell of Cedar Park, Texas; sisters, Gracie Kurtz of Nebraska and Jeannette Ferguson of Hico, Texas. Clyde has many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
We would like to thank the staff at Weatherford Healthcare for their wonderful care and attention to Clyde over the past few months. We truly appreciate the love and tenderness you showed Clyde during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel on Saturday, September 8, 2012 with Rev. Sam Cotter officiating and burial to follow in Brown Cemetery in Aledo, Texas.
