Donald Warren BARNUM was born on 13 Mar 1911 in Saint Maries, Benewah, Idaho and died on 28 May 1997 in Salem, Marion, Oregon. He married, 30 Jun 1933 in Vancouver, Washington, Doris Hermina KRIEG and they had one child, Richard Lee BARNUM. Don was a Radioman in the US Navy during World War II, quickly rising to the rank of Chief Radioman. He was captured by the Japanese while stationed on the island of Guam and spent several years in a prisoner of war camp in Japan. Following his release at the end of the war he was commissioned as an officer and subsequently made the Navy his career. After retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Commander, he took his family to live in retirement in Corvallis, Oregon, where they remained until his death.
