Barnum, Irena

Private graveside services will be held for Irena Barnum, 93, of Willoughby, a former stenographer and secretary.

Ms. Barnum died July 22, 1995, at Breckenridge Village in Willoughby.

Born April 26, 1902, in Chardon, she lived there before moving to Breckenridge Village in Willoughby in 1979.

She was a 1920 graduate of Chardon High School and studied at Spencerian College in Cleveland. She was an avid traveler and a devoted, voracious reader. She was a volunteer in activities at Breckenridge ranging from oral history to acting. She was also a literacy volunteer for Project Learn.

She was employed in the securities firm of L. J. Schultz and Co. in Cleveland. Prior to that, she was a stenographer and secretary at Western Reserve University School of Medicine and worked in the office of Congresswoman Frances P. Bolton.

Her parents, Hiram and Ella Barnum; sister, Elsie Painter; and brother Forrest "Curly" Barnum, are deceased.

The family suggests contributions to Life Care Fund of Breckenridge Village.

Arrangments are being handled by Ritondero Funeral Home in Chardon.
