Obituary

Cassie Carlock Barnhart

Cassie Carlock Barnhart, 72, of East Wenatchee, formerly of Waterville, Leavenworth and Cashmere, died in Central Washington Hospital on Sunday morning, March 29, 1987, following a short illness.

She was born Cassandra Constance Carlock on Aug. 7, 1914, at Waterville, the second oldest of five children of Frank and Nora Carlock. She attended schools in Waterville and graduated from Waterville High School in 1931. She then attended Washington State College in Pullman.

She married Lester H. Barnhart on March 17, 1936, at Waterville and they made their first home in Wenatchee. After Mr. Barnhart became a manager for Western Union in 1940, they lived in various cities throughout Montana, Oregon and Washington. During the time they lived in Milwaukie, Ore., Mrs. Barnhart worked as a children's librarian in the Portland Public Library. When they moved to Federal Way in 1959 she worked as a librarian there also. In 1975 they both retired. They first moved to Leavenworth in 1976, then to Cashmere, and then to East Wenatchee in 1984. The Barnharts were married 50 years and Mr. Barnhart died exactly one year ago.

Mrs. Barnhart was a member of the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church and the Chumstick Grange N. 819 in Leavenworth. In Wenatchee she was active in the WICS program (Widowed Information and Consultation Service) and also helped the YWCA with its estate sales.

Survivors include one son, Donald Barnhart, Seattle; one daughter, Mrs. John (Judy) Turner, Salinas, Calif.; one sister, Lenora Palmquist, Florida; and three grandchildren.

Telford's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
