Bernard "Bernie" L. Barnhart, 82, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home and of 265 N. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at the home.
Born Oct. 22, 1922, in Coseytown, Pa., he was the son of the late William A. and Nora M. Provard Barnhart.
He attended White Pine School, Coseytown.
Prior to retiring, he worked at Grove, Shady Grove, Pa., in the scheduling department.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received the WWII Victory Ribbon and Army Occupation medal.
He was a member of Broadfording Church of God.
He was a member of Harry D. Ziegler VFW, Post 6319, Greencastle.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth V. Burger Barnhart, whom he married Sept. 20, 1941; four daughters, Margaret A. Hurd of Wilmington, N.C., Marlene Duffey of Greencastle, Shirley Angle of Mount Union, Pa., and Sharon Swaney of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; one son, Dwight L. Barnhart of Greencastle; one sister, Margaret E. Bingaman of Greencastle; two brothers, Wilbur E. Barnhart of Greencastle and Howard D. Barnhart of Chambersburg, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Lovesse Barnhart, and three brothers, Kenneth W. Barnhart, Clifford E. Barnhart and Sam E. Barnhart.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Rev. C. William Spangler will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
