Robert E. Barnhart (Whitie), 92, of Cincinnati, went peacefully to be with his Lord on October 28, 2014. He was born in Lena, IL on Dec. 10, 1921.
He is survived by
his loving wife of 71 years;
2 daughters, Lynne Ruhl and Jayne Reizner (Jim);
four grandchildren, Rebecca L. Ruhl (Joe Smith), Aaron A. Reizner (Julie), Kimberly A. Perkins (David) and Bradley Robert Barnhart Jr. (Kelly);
great grandchildren, Noah, Chloe and Morgan;
sister-in-law, Ellen Irwin from Houston, TX;
many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by
a son, Bradley Robert Barnhart. He has
He was recruited in college and served in the Army Air Forces as a fighter pilot during WWII. While based in England he flew 75 missions over Germany, many in his favorite plane, the P 51 Mustang with Margie Darling painted on the nose. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross along with many other honors for his heroic efforts during the war. When the war ended, he went to MIT where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as a mechanical engineer at Procter and Gamble for 33 years before retiring. He continued flying after the war and worked as a flight instructor which allowed him to share his love of flying with many lucky students. His grandson in law said it best "Whitie had honor, character, integrity and passion. He was a devout Christian and a model for men." He will be sorely missed by his family and friends and everyone he touched along the way.
