My grandfather, The Rev. Mays Milton Barnett was the son of the late L.P. Barnett and Mary Jane Fowler Barnett. At the time of his passing he was the minister at Riverside Baptist Church which is now the Second Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina. He died at home 204 Choice Street, Greenville, South Carolina. My grandfather received his education at the North Greenville Baptist Academy and Furman University. For the past 20 years he had been engaged in the ministry and had served as pastor of several churches in Greenville County. He was a member of the Greenville Ministerial Union and the Baptist's Minister's conference being past president of that organiization.

Prior to moving back to Greenville my grandfather was engaged in the Baptist Home Mission Board where he held the office of principal at several mountain mission schools in Virginia, Alabama, and North Carolina and at the same time was serving as pastor of churches in those areas. Funeral Services were held at Riverside Baptist Church with the following minister's officiating: Dr. C. Frank Pittman, Dr. George W. Quick, Dr. B.D. Hahn and Rev. L. B. White.

His obituary shows that he was survived by his wife, Vannie James Barnett, daughters, Miss Mary Florence Barnett, Miss Eva Lila Barnett and Miss Ruth Barnett. Among his sons were James Long Barnett, Mays Milton Barnett Jr. Dean Albert Barnett, Luther Zedic Barnett snd Lee Prince Barnett. Among his brother's were Perry Barnett, Mack Barnett, Carl Barnett of Landrum, South Carolina; Henry Barnett of Spartanburg and Walter Barnett of Greenville, South Carolina.
His obituary was published in The Greenville News-Greenville, South Carolina on the 10th day of March 1932 page 6.

In loving memory to a grandfather, I never knew but looking at his picture all these years I knew in my heart that you knew you were on a mission for The Lord.
