Winnifred 'Winnie' E. Barnett
Winnifred "Winnie" E. Barnett, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born Aug. 8, 1919, the daughter of the late Alfred and Clara (Barttelt) Hoffmann in the town of Rib Falls. She married Mack E. Barnett on June 6, 1942, in Wausau. Mack preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 2003.
Winnie retired from Wausau Lumber Sales after many years of service. She enjoyed writing poetry. Her accomplishments included many of her poems being published in books and magazines. Winnie also won many national awards for her poetry. She loved to cook and also was active in her younger years at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mosinee as a Sunday School teacher and was involved in the church circle. She was currently a church member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stettin.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Barnett of Marathon and Terry (Marie) Barnett of Schofield; two daughters, Carole (William) Valenta of Mosinee and Claire (Robert) Howe of Ettrick, Wis.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alfred (Takako) Hoffmann Jr. of Kronenwetter, Orville (Evelyn) Hoffmann of Hartford and Robert (Adeline) Hoffmann of Walworth, Wis.; one sister, Florence (Kermit) Krueger of Clintonville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Kenneth; and two brothers, Marvin and Donald.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stettin. The Rev. Clarence Gall will officiate. Burial will be in town of Stettin Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Brainard Funeral Home in Wausau and again from 10 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the church.
