Wava Lou Bain, 83, of 176 E. Alta Vista Ave., went home to be with her heavenly father on the wings of a dove at 10:23 a.m. May 30, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
She was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Hamburg, Iowa, to Freidman T. and Nellie R. Isaac Barnes. She married Glenn Bain Feb. 4, 1950, in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1991.
A graduate of Albia High School, she had served in the WAVES.She had owned and operated a beauty shop in Ottumwa for many years and had farmed and raised cattle with her husband.She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, volunteer for Hospice of Wapello and Davis County and was a blood donor for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and helping her neighbors.
Surviving are her daughter, Jana Christine Green of Ottumwa; two granddaughters, Lyndsey Christine (Christopher) Milo of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Keelee Ryan (Peter) Wiedler of Winder, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Adrian Green, Ryan Wiedler and Patrick Guevera; brother, Donald Barnes of Camanche; and sister, Gertrude Bain of Pinellas Park, Fla.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Douglas Bain; five brothers, Leo, Fred, Ronald, Keith and Danny Barnes; and three sisters, Betty Luna, Carol Hall and Daisy Logan.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Reece Funeral Home with Father John Spiegel presiding. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
