Marilyn G. Barnes, 74, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at a local hospital.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Burial: Cape Fear Baptist Church Cemetery in North Carolina. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Additional services will be held at Cape Fear Baptist Church; Marilyn will lie in state 10 to 11 a.m. Friday and her service will begin at 11 a.m.
Memorials: Her memory may be honored with a gift to The Susan B. Komen Walk for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, Texas 75244.
Marilyn was born in 1932 in North Carolina. After she served in the U.S. Air Force, she studied accounting at Texas Christian University. She had owned and operated Barnes Bookkeeping & Tax Service since the late 1970s and was very dedicated to helping her clients. She served as treasurer of the Fort Worth Humane Society for 13 years and treasurer of the Westhaven Homeowners Association for 23 years. She was also a member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church.
Marilyn loved the arts. She also loved camping, traveling, fishing and spending time at the ocean. She was always willing to offer a helping hand to others. She felt so blessed to share in the lives of her nieces, nephews and great-nephews in Texas who loved and adored her.
Survivors: Her friend since childhood and care-giver during her lengthy illness, Carolyn McNeill; mother, Goldie Davis of North Carolina; sisters, Louise Brisson of North Carolina, Sara Brisson of South Carolina, Julia Williams of DeSoto, Jean Debnam of Dallas and Margaret Wright of Houston; nieces and nephews, Jill Engstrom, Bob and Sam Debnam, and Wendell, Wesley and Wayne Williams; great-nephews, Michael, Brent and Blake Debnam and Ben Engstrom; and her faithful assistant for 24 years, Dana White of Fort Worth.
