DEATH OF MRS. ARBUCKLE
Mariette Barnes was born in Leyden, Lewis Co., NY, Jan. 30, 1829. She was married to Vernon Arbuckle Dec. 9th, 1848 at Oswego, Kendale Co., IL. Died August 9th, 1900 at her home in Arlington having reached the ripe age of 71 years, 6 months, 9 days.
Mr. and Mrs. Arbuckle lived in Illinois until the fall of 1854. On Sept. 9th of that year they arrived in Fayette Co., IA and have lived 46 years in the vicinity of Arlington. During these years she has endeared herself to many friends. By her goodness, gentle spirit, and exceeding patience in long years of suffering, she has won for herself the honor and distinction of a good name which is "rather to be chosen than great riches and loving favor than silver and gold". (Prov. 22:1).
Mrs. Arbuckle leaves behind to suffer the sadness of her departure her husband, one only child, Mrs. Harrison Foster, of Kansas, four great grandchildren; also one brother, Judge E. W. Barnes, of Marshfield, MO. and one sister, Mrs. Paulina J. Smith, of Jack(sic), OK. Mr. Arbuckle has one brother in Middlesex, VT and another brother in Wolcott, VT.
Mr. Arbuckle wishes us to extend his thanks to all friends who so kindly assisted him during all his recent trouble.
