Wife of Capt. Wm Barnes.

Atlanta Constitution, 7 Nov 1893

The funeral of Mrs. A. L. Barnes, the widow of Captain William Barnes, one of Atlanta's pioneer citizens, will occur from her late residence, No. 52 Piedmont avenue, this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.

Mrs. Barnes was known to all of the older citizens, and had many friends who were strongly attached to her throughout the period of her residence in this city. Captain Barnes, her husband, was a gallant confederate soldier, going out from Atlanta, and yielding up his life in teh very last battle of the war.

For several weeks prior to her death, Mrs. Barnes had been in declining health. It had been the hope of her friends that the threatened result might be averted, but as the days passed it became evident to the watchers about her bedside that she was nearing the borders of the spirit land, where a bright and shining reward awaited her. Her death was a beautiful close to the life of Christian usefulness which she lived.

The following gentlemen will act as pallbearers, and the interment will be at Oakland cemetery: Messrs. J. H. Mecaslin, A. Leyden, J. E. Williams, A. S. Talley, W. L. Hubbard, A. Bellingrath, J. J. Toon and Hamilton Crankshaw.
