Kathlyn "Kitsy" Moody Barnes passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 28, 2012 at her home at Heartfields Assisted Living in Fredericksburg, VA. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, John James Barnes. She is also survived by daughters Kitsy Young, of Fredericksburg and Shirley Leonard of Front Royal, as well as sons John James Barnes of Mechanicsville and Chuck Barnes of Arlington Virginia. Mrs. Barnes also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Tres and Shawn McEvoy, and Dawn Jones of McLean, VA (the three she raised) and Anthony, Jeff, Tory, and Stevie Barnes, Rachael and Mason Young, and Beth Petersavage. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Born June 4, 1923 in Pascagoula Mississippi, "Kitsy" as she was lovingly called by her friends and family, was a true Southern Bell and spent most of her youth in Mobile Alabama. She and her husband, John, were high school sweethearts and attended McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile where they met as cheerleaders. They were married in 1943, just as John was headed into the Army where he served proudly during World War II. As the war ended, the young couple set up house in Mobile, Alabama to raise their family. They relocated to New Orleans in 1967 before finally settling in Virginia in 1969 and spent many years with their children and grandchildren. A devoted Catholic, Kitsy was a loving mother and grandmother, and her family was the center of her life. She loved visiting family and hosting holiday parties and other gatherings. Kitsy was loved by all those who knew her and left a lasting impression because of her loving, fun and gentle spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of loving kindness and generosity as a selfless nurturing mother to all her children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10am Friday, March 2 at Covenant Funeral Service, 1310 Courthouse Road, Stafford. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 2 at at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 1009 Stafford Avenue, Fredericksburg, VA. Following the service family and friends may gather at Heartfields Assisted Living, 20 Heartfields Lane, Fredericksburg, VA 22405. The burial will be held at a future date at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 4034, 4722 Harrison Road, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22407. ...."Kitsy, my darling. I loved her a lot!" John J. Barnes.
