Ethel Barnes; former Sharon Steel employee

Ethel Barnes, 86, formerly of Mercer, died at Orchard Manor nursing home in Grove City at 12:55 p.m. on Sept. 25, 1994, after an extended illness. She was born in Clay Township, Butler County, on Sept. 5, 1908, to Samuel Presley and Laura Best Stevenson. Preceding her in death was her husband, Braden Everett Barnes, in 1968. They were married on Aug. 3, 1924. A homemaker, Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Springfield Township in Mercer County. At one time, she worked at the former Samuels Restaurant in Grove City and prior to that, at Sharon Steel. Survivors include four daughters, ------ of Grove City, ------ and Mildred Moon, both of Plain Grove Township, and ------ of Mercer; two sons, Harry of Butler and ------ of Slippery Rock; five sisters, Mabel Forsythe of Grove City, Edith Erwin of Youngstown, Edna Osche of Fennellton, Ann Heasley of Butler and Katheryn Stevenson of Herman; two brothers, Paul Stevenson of Sharon and Tom Stevenson of Butler; 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren; and numerous step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Thelma Nobel and Hazel Stiles; two sisters, Ellen and Mary; two brothers, John and Lester; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Smith Funeral Home of Leesburg, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in North Plain Grove Cemetery.
