Mildred "Dutch" (Atkeson) Barnes, 84, of Claremore, entered her heavenly home on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at Wood Manor Nursing Home in Claremore, Okla.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Nowata with Pastor Larry Delay officiating.
Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Nowata under the direction of the Stumpff-Nowata Funeral Home.
Mildred was born on Nov. 23, 1924 in Shidler, Okla., the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Maple) Atkeson. It was through her work as a social worker for the surrounding counties and coordinator for the Nowata Senior Citizens Center that she acquired many friends. She was very proud that she was able to take care of her mother for thirty years and that she was able to experience five generations of family.
Mildred enjoyed reading the newspaper and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nowata.
Survivors include three children, Rodney D. Atkeson of Blue Eye, Missouri, Joey L. Warner of Chelsea, Oklahoma, and Brenda K. Hester of Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren, Scott L. Warner, Shawna Parrett, Deena Hester, Garrett Hester, Crystal (Warner) Keiser; one great granddaughter, Madison Parrett; one great grandson, Jake L. England; three nephews, Donald Bell, Larry Wallis, and Jerry Wallis.
She was preceded by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Wallis; and one son, Dennis Warner.Stumpff-Nowata Funeral Home (918) 333-4300.
