Mrs. Joseph Barnes, 63, was fatally burned at her home just north of Williamstown last Friday morning, January 27, 1939, when her apron was ignited while she was cooking. Mrs. Barnes lived with her daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Fryer, and was the widow of the late Charles Barnes. Her daughter married Kirtley Barnes who later died. She then married Sherman Fryer of Falmouth. Mrs.. Barnes' two granddaughters, Celestine and Marcella Barnes were in the room at the time but were unable to beat out the flames before whe was burned fatally; a locked door prevented Mrs. Fryer from reaching her mother in time to smolder out the flames before she was fatally burned. Dr. R. E. Kinsey was called and gave the victim first aid, and she later was taken to a hospital where she died Saturday. Mrs. Barnes is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fryer and Mrs. Lorene Parker of Williamstown; one stepdaughter, Mrs. B. Hodson of Madisonville, Ohio; two brothers, Benton and Fred Coppess of Beamsville, Ohio; and 4 grandchildren. Burial in Williamstown Cemetery, Williamstown, Ky.
