The following obituary was published in Rosenberg Herald on June 8, 1945.
"V. B. Barnes, Sr. Dies of a Heart Attack"
Funeral services wee held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fogle West chapel in Houston, for V. B. Barnes, Sr. with Rev. T. G. Jester officiating. Burial was made in the Hollywood cemetery. Pallbearers were H.K. Reese, Vincent Deluke, John Goldsmith, Stanley Unick, F. R. Gray and Roy H. Collins. Fogle West company directed.
Mr. Barnes died at his home in Angleton, Saturday, May 26, 1945, following a heart attack.
Mr. Barnes, a former resident of Rosenberg and Houston, had been living in Angleton for some time. He is well known in Rosenberg where he had business connections and where he lived before moving with his family to Houston.
Surviving Mr. Barnes are two sons, V. B. Barnes, Jr. of Angleton and Pvt. George P. Barnes of the army at Fort Lewis, Wash.; a daughter Mrs. B. E. Gott of San Francisco, Cal.; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Danheim of Houston, Mrs. J. E. Portis of Baytown; four brothers, J. T. Barnes of Rosenberg, W. E. Barnes of El Campo, Charles Barnes of Damon and Carl Barnes of Vivian, La., four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. * * *
