Mrs. Barnes Dies; Widow of Sheriff
Mrs. Carrie Moncrief Barnes of Fayetteville, widow of Lincoln County Sheriff Eugene Barnes, died Thursday at Lincoln County Hospital following a short illness. She was 86 years old.
Services were Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Wiman officiating. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Barnes, who died in 1965, was appointed by the County Court in 1954 to fill the unexpired term of Frank Largen, who died while in office. He was elected to two terms following his appointment.
A native of Texas, Mrs. Barnes was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Moncrief and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lem Sugg; two sons, E. W. Barnes and J.D Barnes, all of Fayetteville; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
