7th Tennessee Calvary, private, Co C, enlisted and mustered at Paducah KY on 1/6/65. He was 25 years old, 5'7" tall, light complexion, blue eyes, fair hair, a farmer, born in Carroll Co, TN on 2/10/1839 to Henry and Susan Barnes. He became a company cook. At time of the discharge of the regiment at Nashville on 8/9/65 he had lost a poncho worth $3 and retained a pistol worth $8. He applied for and received an invalid pension in 1890 while living in Arkansas. He died at Holladay, TN on 11/25/1918 and is buried in Benton Co, TN in Liberty Cemetery, a Northern Methodist Church cemetery. He has a military marker. His widow, Mary Ann Smothers Barnes, received a pension in 1919 while living in Tennessee.
