Obituary from Wayne County Press, 4/1938:

Nellie Dawson, daughter of J.M. and Nancy Dawson, was born in Wayne Co., Feb. 10, 1888, passed away at her home in the Bailey neighborhood April 11, 1938, aged 50 years, two months and 1 day.

She was united in marriage to Edgar Barnard Oct. 27, 1907. To this union were born two sons, Normie Barnard of Wayne City and Otho Barnard of Lexington, Ill.

She confessed her faith in Christ March 27, 1905, and united with the New Zion Baptist church, later transfering her membership to the Arrington Prairie church, where she held membership until her death, living a consistant faithful life among those with whom she walked and and a real Christian mother to her family in all their trials and troubles.

During her long and lingering illness her faith in Christ never wavered.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two sons and two daughter-in-laws, whom she loved as her very own, 1 grandson, . . . , her mother Mrs. Mary Dawson of Decatur, three brothers, Oliver of Decatur, Curtis of Chenoa, and Kelly of Sims, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Cravens of Decatur and Mrs. Lu Downen of Portland, Oregon. Her father, 1 brother and 2 sisters having preceded her in death. Besides a host of other relatives and friends are left to carry on and one more link is forged in our chain bounding us to the eternal world beyond.

Funeral services were held at the Bailey church, April 13, conducted by Rev. Byers, assisted by Rev. Jessie Miller and Rev. H.C. Mendenhall. Interment in the Bailey cemetery.
