Daughter of James and Sarah Waters Heap.

Wife of Israel Barlow.

Life Sketch of Mrs. L. H. Barlow

Lucy Heap Barlow was born Sept 24, 1836 in Litchfield, Staffardshire, England.

When yet a mere child, she was often seen standing upon a stool eagerly listening to the elders as they proclaimed the glad tidings they had come to bring to the honest in heart. She embraced the gospel at a tender age and when but eighteen years old bid father and mother, brothers and sisters, home and friends and that was dear to her farewell, for the gospel's sake. She never saw her parents again.

She left her home in the spring of 1855 to come to Zion. It took six weeks to cross the ocean. She walked nearly a thousand miles in crossing the plains. Arrived in Utah in October.

December 1st of the same year, she was married to Israel Barlow.

She passed through many trials and hardships incident in the early settlement of this country.

Moved south when Johnson's army came through here.

She was the mother of eight children, four sons and four daughters, whom she always taught to obey their father and those in authority over them in the church.

She leaves three sons, three daughters, forty-four grand children and one great-grand child, one brother and one sister and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her loss. She departed this life on the morning of the Fourth of July in Afton, Wyoming at the home of her daughter, Isabel Call, where she had been to spend the winter. Her health had been very poorly for years, and an attack of lagrippe and paralysis was more than her feeble constitution could stand.

All of her sons and daughters, except Granville, who is in Sheffield, England, on a mission, were present when the end came.

The remains were brought to Bountiful, her home, for burial and funeral services were held in the West ward meeting house, Saturday, July 6th at 2 p. m.

Short services were held at Afton on the evening of the 4th before starting for Bountiful with the remains. She died as she had lived a faithful Latter-day Saint.
