Mr. Lewis Walter Barlow, Jr., 84, of Ruther Glen, died at his home Monday, April 28, 2008.

Born in Caroline County, he was member of Concord Baptist Church for 70 years, where he had served as Sunday School director, teacher, and deacon.

He was a charter member of Reedy Church Ruritan Club and Frog Level Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a World War II Army veteran, and had retired from Blakemore Construction.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Mitchell Barlow; a daughter, Hope B. Gatewood; three brothers, Henry C. Barlow, C. Ray Barlow, and Anthony E. Barlow, all of Ruther Glen; three sisters, Dorothy B. Bullock of Mechanicsville, Iola B. Utz of Amelia, and Shirley B. Minter of Powhatan; two granddaughters, Paula Reid and her husband, Keith, of Aylett and Stacy McGrath and her husband, Richard, of Mechanicsville; five great- grandchildren, Chase Mitchell Reid, Hailey Elizabeth Reid, Juliana Hope McGrath, Kelsey Elizabeth McGrath, and Richard Kenneth Tyler McGrath; and his caregiver, Nancy Turner.

He was preceded in death his parents, Pearl Edwards and Lewis W. Barlow Sr.; a brother, Francis M. Barlow Sr.; a sister, Leona B. Carter; and his son-in-law, Kenneth Gatewood.

A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in Concord Baptist Church, 15625 Concord Rd., Ruther Glen, Va. 22546. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
