LAYTON - Virginia Barlow Humphrey, age 90, passed away at the Davis Hospital and Medical Center on January 9, 2001.

She was born in Bountiful, Utah, on September 13, 1910, the fourth child of Edmund Francis Barlow and Lucy Ann Garrett.

She had many family members and friends who were with her in her final hours.

She was loved by many.

She lived in Bountiful, Park Valley, West Jordan, and Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 1937 she moved to Santa Monica, California, to join her family.

She resided in Santa Monica, where she raised her family, until 1984, when she moved to Layton, Utah.

As a young girl, Virginia worked at the Sweet Candy Company in Salt Lake City, until she joined Mountain States Telephone Co. in Bountiful, where she was an operator.

When she moved to California she worked for Pacific Telephone, where she became a chief operator, manager, and a member of top management. She retired after 35 years of service. Virginia was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. Her faith was strong and was exemplified by her many acts of kindness to friends and strangers alike.

She was truly a living example of the principle of charity.

She served in many church callings, but loved mostly being a pianist in Relief Society and a chorister in Junior Sunday School.

She also enjoyed being a visiting teacher, which calling she faithfully fulfilled until she passed away. She married Lindsay Lowell Humphrey in the Salt Lake Temple on Nov. 6, 1940.

He passed away in 1982.

They were blessed with two daughters, Ruth Ann (Karl) Woods, and JoAnn Hibbard (deceased). Her grandchildren are, Lori (Mark) Riviea, Paula Nobles, Charles (Ethnam) Kim, and Stephanie Woods. Her great-grandchildren are, Weston Adams, Terra Marie Christensen (deceased), Jasmine Christensen, Hermes Riviea, Jesse Mirelez, Christian Nobles, and Margaret, Connor, Jared, and Sarah Kim.

She is also survived by three brothers, Edmund Garrett (Eula) Barlow, I. Haven (Velma) Barlow, David McKay Barlow, and one sister, Lucy Barlow Hanson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 12, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Layton So. Stake Center, 505 So. 1000 West. Friends and family may call Thursday, 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Friday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. at the stake center. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
