Earl W. Barkman, Jan. 20, 1917-April 18, 1997, Earl William BARKMAN, 80, 2766 East 200 North, died at 10:55 a.m. Friday at his residence. He had been ill for two months. He was born near Rochester to Harley E. and Tessie McCARTER BARKMAN. On Jan. 20, 1940 in Rochester, he married Helen L. CARITHERS, who survives. He lived in this community his entire life. He was a 1935 Rochester High School graduate and member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a Woodlawn Hospital volunteer and past Noble Grand of IOOF Lodge #47 of which he was a member for 55 years. He served on the Fulton County Council for two terms and served on the board of the Fulton County American Cancer Society. He retired from farming in 1992. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Janis) DIEHM, Reading, Pa., and Mrs. Jean-Pierre (Karen) KANE, Wabash; two sons, Dennis [BARKMAN] and Rhoda BARKMAN, Kokomo, and David L. and Karen BARKMAN, Fayetteville, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, Gretchen [DIEHM], Eric [DIEHM], and Laura DIEHM, Nicole, Steven [KANE] and Michael KANE and Bartley [BARKMAN], Denise [BARKMAN], Bradley [BARKMAN], Joshua [BARKMAN], Amanda [BARKMAN], Seth [BARKMAN] and Japheth BARKMAN; and two sisters, Mrs. Mabel BLACKETOR, Rochester, and Mrs. Carl (Helen) WILSON, Grace Village, Winona Lake. Services will be at noon Monday. at Foster and Good Funeral Home with pastor Donald W. BRENNEMAN officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday and after 11 a.m. Monday. IOOF Lodge #47 will conduct a memorial service at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.
