nephew
dies at 63
George F. Berkley , 63, of Bowling Green, and formerly of Paducah, died Sunday afternoon at the Bowling Green-Warren County Hospital.
Mr. Barkley, the nephew of the late Vice President Alben Barkley, was a retired alcohol, firearms and tobacco agent for the federal government, having served in that capacity 38 years.
A native of Memphis, Tenn., he formerly lived in Paducah,. and was a graduate of Augusta Tilghman High School where he was a star football player.
While living here he was a Sea and Eagle Boy Scout. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Mr. Barkley attended Murray State College and was a graduate of the Jefferson School of Law in Louisville.
He was a member of the Scottish Rites Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jewell Johns Barkley of Bowling Green; his mother, Mrs. Maude Barkley of Bowling Green, and a sister, Mrs. Josephine Long, also of Bowling Green.
Also surviving are a number of cousins in this area.
